Teresina does not change its clocks
A fixed offset, all year round
Teresina stays on Brasilia Standard Time at UTC-03:00 every day of the year. There is no spring-forward or fall-back here, which puts it with the majority: most of the world's time zones do not observe daylight saving.
That sounds like it makes scheduling simpler, and locally it does — but it introduces a different trap for anyone working with Teresina from a country that does change clocks. The offset between you and Teresina is not constant: it changes when your clocks move, even though nothing changed here. A recurring call that has run at the same local time for months will shift by an hour, from your side, without anyone editing the invite.
When the gap to Teresina changes
Dates in the next year where the difference shifts, by counterpart city
The difference between two cities is not a constant. It changes whenever either side moves its clocks — and because regions switch on different dates, there are short windows each year when the usual gap is wrong. These are the dates that matter for Teresina:
New York (United States)
- From 1 November 2026: Teresina is 2 hours ahead of New York
- From 14 March 2027: Teresina is 1 hour ahead of New York
Madrid (Spain)
- From 25 October 2026: Teresina is 4 hours behind Madrid
- From 28 March 2027: Teresina is 5 hours behind Madrid
Lisbon (Portugal)
- From 25 October 2026: Teresina is 3 hours behind Lisbon
- From 28 March 2027: Teresina is 4 hours behind Lisbon

Longest day
12h 25m of daylight
Shortest day
11h 50m of daylight
Yearly swing
0h 35m between them
Day length here barely changes: 12h 25m at its longest and 11h 50m at its shortest, a difference of only 35 minutes across the whole year. Teresina is close enough to the equator that the seasons barely register in daylight terms, which is part of why daylight saving would serve no purpose at this latitude.
Clock time versus solar time
Teresina's clock is unusually well matched to the sun: local noon falls within 9 minutes of the moment the sun is actually overhead. Most cities sit further out, because time zones follow borders rather than longitude.
